Strong Rains Lash Quake-Hit Regions in Japan

New cooling trouble at Japan nuclear plant

May 29th, 2011 - "Emergency workers on Sunday restored the cooling system of a reactor which had come to a halt after escaping major damage from the March 11 quake and damage at the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant. The water pump to cool the reactor and the pool for spent nuclear fuel at the facility's No. 5 unit was found to be at a standstill late Saturday, the plant's operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. Storm Songda churns towards Tokyo

May 29th, 2011 - "Typhoon Songda weakened into a depression as it churned along Japan's Pacific coast on Sunday but was still expected to bring heavy rains to the northeast which was hit by a massive earthquake and tsunami. Japan books trade deficit as crisis hits output

May 25th, 2011 - "Japan fell into a trade deficit in April as exports tumbled at the fastest pace in 18 months on supply chain disruptions after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, official data showed Wednesday. It is the first time in 31 years that the world's third largest economy has suffered a trade deficit for the month of April, according to the finance ministry. Japan logged a deficit of 463.7 billion yen ($5.6 billion) last month, reversing a year-before surplus of 729.2 billion yen. Exports fell 12.5 percent, the fastest pace of decline since October 2009, with shipments of cars diving 67.0 percent and electronics parts such as microchips dropping 19.0 percent..." - Yahoo!
